So over the weekend Jonathon and I had the pleasure of attending market in Dallas! I, Rachel, am a buyer for a small boutique near my home town. Going to market is absolutely my favorite part of my job! I get to go and pick out all the wonderful things for my Aunt's store to carry! I started attending Market in August of 2013, and I have never had the opportunity to take Jonathon with me! So since he was off work on Saturday and Sunday we decided to team up and go! We were able to walk a majority of the facility and check out a lot of awesome vendors! This is also really good for us because we are in the process of opening up our own boutique together! It is going to be a long process but we are excited about the possibilities it could bring!
So what exactly is market? Well Dallas Market is a huge 15 floor building with about 50 showrooms on each floor and all it is, is different brands and sales reps trying to sell you their product to put in your retail store and then you sell it to your consumers. So only people that are buyers or if you know of a buyer they bring you in as a guest. This particular market was the Home and Gift market so their were vendors for rugs, candles, jewelry, key chains, perfumes, crafty signs, picture frames, throw pillows, lighting and every thing in between! I am going back on Thursday for the Apparel Market, so I can gather up some good clothes to sell in the shop I work for! It is a very fun, creative, and analytical process!
It is also really fun to go to market so you can see what trends are going to be coming up for Spring into Fall.
Some trends that I saw (Keep in Mind this was not Apparel Market):
- Unfortunately Chevron is still hot, I am ready for it to die
- Burlap also going to be big
- Rustic and Industrial type furniture is huge
- Patterned Rugs and Throw Pillows
- Soy Candles
- Artistic Gold Jewelry, the hand crafted type
- Junk Gypsy was really big here, that might just be a Texas thing - not sure
