I like to consider myself a huge fan of local breweries. I do my best to give them $10-$15 when I can (in exchange for a glass and beer). There is nothing better than helping out your local breweries, so I highly suggest enjoying their fine beers when you can. I have never really been to a Dallas brewery so when my Fraternity Brother's invited me out for a Saturday afternoon brewery hop, I had to indulge myself. I got to enjoy two Breweries: Deep Ellum and Community.
I didn't really plan on drinking too much, but I road the train up to Dallas so I figured why not drink dark beer. I have Left Hand Milk Stout to thank for my love of stout beers. So I start my first Dallas beer with the Double Brown Stout. This was an amazingly smooth dark beer. Full of rich bold flavor. I didn't think I would ever stop drinking, but beers do run out. So I moved on to my next beer: Oak Cliff Coffee Ale. Who doesn't need caffeine and alcohol! It couldn't have been a better second pick. A great pick me up and a great beer all together. This is a beer you can drink as a dessert in its own. I highly recommend this beer. I ended my tour with the Blonde. It seems to be the standard beer for this company and I thought to myself "How can you go to Deep Ellum without trying the Blonde?"
After making a quick pit stop for food at Twisted Root (which was beyond greasy and slightly unsettling) we made our way to Community Brewing Company. Now I could talk about the other beers I had at Community (if I could remember them) but, there is only one beer I care to talk about. This brew is the Ascension Coffee Porter. This beer was absolutely life changing in terms of my brew experience. The dark robust flavor was absolutely amazing. I do sometimes wonder since this glorious beer has hit my lips if I ever will find a better brew. Since this is a limited release, I do hope you find yourself a pint of this magical experience. If you can find this beer, I suggest their year-round brew Legion. It doesn't quite hit the spot like the Ascension Coffee Porter, but it will feed your thirst for a porter/dark brew.
