It has been awhile since I completed my first triathlon and I have had this post written for some time now. After sitting around and thinking this past Sunday about how little I have been putting into my workouts, I thought I would put some inspiration into myself, and hopefully my readers by releasing this post.
After high school, I never really thought I would ever be back in "shape". I just figured I would be my slightly overweight self for the rest of my life. You could say I had found my place of contention. As you have read from my wife's post not too long ago, we are working to make ourselves better. She had been running and eating healthy and I decided it was time I fell in line with her.
For a couple of seasons, I had been riding mountain bikes with my friend Kyle. This was the extent that my active life style was. A couple of days week a few months a year, I was riding dirt trails. This season (2014) I decided I needed more. Just like my wife decided she would try to better herself. I bought my first road bike. Extremely excited about it.
After cycling for a while, I felt like I could achieve more. I started cycling along side my running workout that I was doing with my wife. I loved doing this. I felt like my body loved the fact that I had put my contemption in the past and was finally extending the boundary of my active life style.
I have a few college colleagues who I saw on Facebook where doing Ironman's. Since I was already biking and running, I just needed to work in a swim workout with my routine. About 3 weeks before the Mayor's Triathlon in Fort Worth was slated to happen, I signed up for it. I was able to work a few swim workouts in before competing. The workout it self felt just great. There was just something about this training that motivated myself.
After doing my first triathlon, I can gladly say it won't be my last. I have every intention on doing a half Ironman in my life time after this. I beat my goal time by more than 30 minutes. It was an absolute wonderful experience doing this sprint triathlon. I hope you all can find motivation in something that you can simply work into your daily routine like have with my training. How are you pushing yourself with self motivation?
